Youth participation for the 2009 Local Council Elections PDF Print E-mail

In this year's Local Council Elections, which were held in 23 different localities in Malta and Gozo, 65 candidates under the age of 30 years (out of the total 272 candidates) contested for the elections. This means that 24% of the candidates were youths. 41 candidates under the age of 30 years were actually elected to be part of the various Local Councils, out of the 161 elected. Therefore 25% of the newly elected councillors are youths. Kunsill Nazzjonali taz-Zghazagh (KNZ) states than an encouraging percentage of youths in this year's Local Council Elections means that youths in Malta and Gozo are appreciating the value of being active in politics. Youths feel that they are an active part of society and hence feel the need to give their service to the community. KNZ believes that youths in Malta and Gozo are increasing their involvement in local politics, and possibly the main motivation is that decisions taken today will affect future generations.

KNZ, together with the Secretariat for Youth and Sport, is currently embarking on a major project, that of Youth Local Councils (Kunsill Lokali Zghazagh), which will involve younger youths aged 14 to 17 who cannot partake in Local Council Elecitons due to age requirement. This project will allow youths interested in organising useful projects for their locality and their fellow neighbours the opportunity to do so, while experiencing team-work and the satisfaction of giving something back to their community. This will evidently encourage further youths to take part in Local Council Elections.

Elezzjonijiet Parlament Ewropew - 6 ta' Ġunju 2009 PDF Print E-mail
Il-KNŻ impenja ruħu sabiex iwassal messaġġ pożittiv rigward l-elezzjonijiet għall-Parlament Ewropew li se jseħħu nhar is-6 ta' Ġunju li ġej. Il-KNŻ ħadem biex l-interessi taż-żgħażagħ jitpoġġew fuq il-mejda tat-tfassil tal-politika għal pajjiżna. Dan sar, fost inizzjattivi oħra, billi l-KNŻ iltaqgħa ma' partiti politiċi li qiegħdin jippreżentaw kandidati għal dawn l-elezzjonijiet, kif ukoll ma' kandidati nnifishom. L-għan kien dak li l-KNŻ jiddiskuti dwar l-importanza tal-Youth Agenda, li hija sensiela ta' proposti mill-Forum Ewropew taż-Żgħażagħ, li l-KNŻ huwa membru tiegħu.  Dan id-dokument jgħati proposti mhux partiġjani lil kandidati għal Parlament Ewropew u l-Kummissjoni Ewropea l-ġdida li tibda f'Novembru li ġej.  Aktar informazzjoni tinstab fuq www.youthagenda.eu .

L-impenn lejn dawn l-elezzjonijiet wasal fi tħejjija ta' filmat mill-KNŻ. Dan il-filmat huwa mtella' permezz tal-parteżipazzjoni tal-maġġoranza ta' kandidati għall-elezzjonijiet li ġejjin. Il-kandidati li ġejjin minn partiti politiċi differenti f'pajjiżna, iwasslu messaġġ wieħed. Il-messaġġ huwa dak li l-vot tas-6 ta' Ġunju huwa wieħed importanti għal pajjiżna. Il-KNŻ jisħaq r-relevanza ta' dawn l-elezzjonijiet mal-ħajjiet taż-żgħażagħ tagħna.

Dan kien possibli b'kollaborazzjoni mar-Rappreżentanza tal-Parlament Ewropew (Valletta).

Il-filmat se jkun preżentat għall-ewwel darba llum, 11 ta' Mejju 2009, fis-7.30pm, waqt riċeviment f'BAR 2-22, fil-Belt Valletta. Il-kandidati kollha għall-Parlament Ewropew huma mistiedna għal dan ir-riċeviment. Waqt dan ir-riċeviment se jsir diskors ta' merħba mill-President tal-KNZ, Sean Meli flimkien mal-Kap tal-Uffiċċju tal-Parlament Ewropew ġewwa Malta, Dr Julian Vassallo. Dan jiġi segwit minn preżentazzjoni mis-Segretarju Ġenerali tal-KNŻ Dylan Seychell.
