General Information:

Membership within the National Youth Council is open only to Youth Organisations, thus no individual may, in his personal capacity, apply for such membership.

Membership of the National Youth Council falls within two categories;
  • Full Membership;
  • Associate Membership

Full Membership:

Full Membership entitles the Organisation to actively participate in all the structures of the Council and has the right to vote in the General Assembly and in the Organisations’ Committee.

An organisation, in order to be considered for full membership must:
  1. be a non-governmental and non-profit organisation
  2. be organised and active on a national level and/or have an international affiliation in an organisation recognised by the European Youth Forum
  3. not be solely organised to serve in one particular University Faculty or workplace
  4. base its functions to serve youths
  5. have a statute, or constituting document, which, in the opinion of the vigilance board, is a democratic statute or document
  6. have a membership of at least 100 youths
  7. have a substantial participation of youths in its leadership

Associate Membership:

This type of membership entitles the Organisation to participate, without having the right to vote in the Organisations’ Committee, International Committee, General Assembly, Committees and sub-committees in place from time to time.

Associated membership requires the Organisation to:

  1. be a non-governmental and non-profit organisation
  2. base its functions to serve youths
  3. have a statute, or constituting document, which, in the opinion of the vigilance board, is a democratic statute or document

Procedure for Applying:

An organisation wishing to apply for membership within the Natonal Youth Council must apply for membership with the Executive Committee. Together with the application form, the Organisation must also provide:

  1. An updated copy of the Organisations’ Statute or Constitutive Document
  2. A work report of the Organisation for the year immediately preceding the date of application
  3. A summary report of the amount of members of the organisation
  4. The Declaration form, obtained from here.
Whenever the Executive Committee receives an application for Membership, the Committee must immediately notify the Vigilance Board, and both structures must express their recommendation, based on the documents submitted as stated above, on whether the Organization satisfies the above criteria. The Recommendations are then submitted to the Organizations’ Committee within two months and subsequently, the proposed application together with the recommendation and opinion of the Organizations’ Committee must be presented to the General Assembly. The General Assembly is ultimately responsible for admitting the Organization as a full member or associated member of the Council.

Duties of Member Organisations:

A Member Organisation, both if a Full Member or an Associated Member, must submit to the Secretary General of the Council an updated copy of its Statute aswell as the declaration, (available from here), by not later than 4 weeks before the General Assembly.

Furthermore, a Member Organisation must submit to the Secretary General of the Council, a copy of its Administrative Report, and an updated copy of its statute if amended, after the General Meeting of the Member Organisation.

The Vigilance Board may demand further information to any Member Organisation, may call for the members of the Organisation as well as verify its list of members.

If a Member Organisation does not submit its data as required above, its voting rights during the General Assembly may be suspended by the Vigilance Board.

Termination of Membership:

A Member Organisation terminates its membership:
  1. Upon informing the Executive Committee of its intention to terminate its membership
  2. Upon its dissolution
  3. By a decision of the General Assembly, after a recommendation of the Vigilance Board, after the Organisation fails to satisfy the requirements established  above, or if the Organisation is not functioning anymore
  4. If the Organisation does not attend for three consecutive General Assembly meetings
  5. If the Organisation does not attend at least one meeting of the Organisations’ Committee between one General Assembly meeting and the other.
A Full member Organisation whose membership is terminated under (a), (d) or (e) above is automatically given the status of Associated Member. Nevertheless, such Organisation may apply once again for Full Membership with Council. The General Assembly, however, must consider the fact that the Organisation has not participated in the Council’s Structures, when deciding upon the Membership of such Organisation.
